Phaeton Nightingale of Allihan

When I began to show Lily, we often competed against a stunning black and tan bitch — GChB Aziz Reatha Allihan. And if she was of a different type from my salukis in the past, I had to admire her and as her show career began to wind down, I encouraged her owner to breed her.

One day at a show late in the year, Haney’s owner said to me, I think I know what dog I would like to breed to, but I don’t know who the dog is. I have a picture but no more information than that. She showed me the picture.

In 2019, I had the huge honor to just the Swedish Saluki Club National at Stromsholm Castle. And for my best of breed I put up a fantastic dog from the working class, Sharwassim Chawki — who turned out to be the top coursing dog and top combined coursing and conformation dog in Sweden for several years. I suspect my choice surprised some folks there — he was a majestic black and tan dog who moved like a vision, had eyes and head to kill for and despite a terrible heat wave, seemed like he could keep going forever.

I’d already had him collected to breed to one of my own bitches!

I am so grateful Jennifer Rimerman let me have Kyra. She’s refined and elegant, playful and wild, willful and loving, has an outline like she was carved from black marble and moves with the freedom and expressiveness of an Arabian filly.

She’s still a youngster and  winning big breeds and establishing her place in the top 5 for 2023 and again in 2024— in limited showing — along with winning Best of Breed at the Westminster Kennel Club in 2024 and two Best in Specialty Shows under breeder judges.  She has also earned BCAT and DCAT titles and her JC.
